She wanted sleep.
Exhausted and desperate for a moment of peace, she struggled to get her two young children to close their eyes and drift off to lullaby land. She read them stories, did a funny shadow puppet show, sang Disney favorites, and rocked them continuously back and forth, but nothing seemed to work.
As the minutes ticked by, She grew increasingly frustrated, wondering if she would ever get a moment to herself. Just one cup of tea. Preferably hot. Lavender to help her ease the nerves. Lost in her tired thoughts she didn’t realize the soft snores escape the mouths of her tiny babes as they had finally drifted off to sleep.
As she looked down at their peaceful faces, she felt a pang of longing. For as much as she had longed for a moment of quiet alone with her lapsing oolong, she now found herself missing the sound of their laughter and the feel of their tiny bodies snuggled up against hers. With a deep sign and a slight smile, she slinked down into their bed, holding her sleeping babies close, savoring the stillness of the moment and the unrelenting and undeniable love that filled her heart.
// as they grow, carry them with you wherever you go. Even if it’s off to get more tea.
